Do you know what today is? It’s…
When I ran my first marathon in Oct. 2009, I ran to raise money for a charity called LOVE 146. If you were a reader back than you may remember what it is all about, but I wanted to take a minute and spotlight this unbelievable charity. This little video gives a quick overview…
Isn’t it just mind blowing? Did you know that human trafficking is the second largest grossing crime in the world? To think that there are millions of children in this word that are being sold for sex and slavery makes my heart ache. LOVE 146 not only helps with the prevention of Human Trafficking but also with Aftercare and Research. They provide children saved from slavery with education, family, security and help them find their place in society again. I really can not say enough about LOVE 146. The idea of child sex slavery has always greatly effected me, but since becoming a Mom, my heart has grown like a million times bigger toward children. Sometimes when I am holding Rowan, I can’t help but think of all those children that need us to do something to help them. I really can’t stop thinking about it. I always make goals for myself on New Years and this year I wanted to do something that could make an impact, even if its just a small one. Sometimes I feel like we get so caught up in our own lives, that we forget that there are other things greater than ourselves going on around us. That is why I decided to come up with this idea….
I have decided to run another Marathon. I will be running the Ottawa Marathon on Memorial Day weekend (*there is also just a half marathon that day too, if you were more interested in that) this year and I want to invite you to run it with me. If you live in the Northeast, it would be awesome if we could make a team of runners to run for LOVE 146. Even if you don’t live around the NE maybe you could find a marathon in your own hometown and run along with us as part of our team. I want to spread the word and I want to help. I will be making weekly posts about training, recipes that will be good for fueling your bodies and chronicling the journey along the way. If you would like to train along with me, each Monday I will be posting the weekly training schedule that you can complete on your own or with friends. I will be setting up a donation page that you can use to get your friends, family and local business’ to donate to. Even if you aren’t a runner, you can still help us with this fight by helping us raise money along the way or by donating yourself.
If you have any interest this year to run a marathon or to do something that will help so many children please email me at jenloveskev(at)gmail(dot).com. I would love to talk to you personally and give you more info about the LOVE 146 running team. Please don’t feel like you have to run a marathon to make a difference. If you have a goal this year even to run a 5k, that is awesome. I would love to hear about it!

how amazing!! i was floored to hear that human trafficking is second only to drugs in frequency and the amount of money it brings in. i sickens me to think that there are people who have so little value for another person’s life that they will do this. i’ve supported an organization called the international princess project for the last few years who does work in india. they buy women out of their slavery and then bring them to a safe house, teach them to sew pajamas and then sell them online. all the money goes back to the women. they have a safe place to be and they get to learn a new trade so that can regain their independence and dignity. i think what you are doing is so awesome, especially as a fellow runner and marathoner! i can’t make it up to canada but i do hope you get lots of supporters and runners. this is such a great cause 🙂
awesome! can’t wait to see your posts chronicling your journey to the race. i’m a new runner (just signed up for a 5k on feb 12th), so i’ll be really interested to see the recipes and tips. great cause! it’s nice to see a style blogger concerned with (and posting about!) something other than style; not that i don’t love style (and yours in particular).

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sex slave trade is a HUGE passion of my heart! I’m so excited about this! I know some girls who will join me! I’m in!
Jen,
I love this cause.
Best of luck to you.
I would run if I was in your area, but I’m not.
Jen, thank you for sharing about this charity and about human trafficking. It sickens me not only how much this happens to children but to adults as well. And how it doesn’t just happen in third world countries but it happens right here in the United States. There was a news article here in Nashville about a human trafficking ring that was going through NASHVILLE.
It is so important for us to be a voice to the voiceless. Thank you for sharing Jen…
I am going to start training to run a 5k. Would this work?
I’m a huge fan of Love146. We’ve held fundraisers here and I’m working to start a chapter here in Worcester. It’s awesome that you’re highlighting it on your blog. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in our own lives and forget about others. Thank you for the reminder & GOOD LUCK with the marathon! What an inspiration! 🙂
Wow, great new charity to check out. I’d never heard of it.
I work closely with World Vision and am so interested in supporting this stuff.
Good for you!!
This is so timely! I just finished the book “Half the Sky” which focuses on the injustices to women in our world, and a huge part of it is on Human Trafficking and the sex trade.
I think it’s so wonderful that you ran a marathon for such a good cause. You are such an inspiration!
Jen, I want to do it! I was really inspired by your marathon last time, and I think it is an excellent cause. But. The most I’ve ran is 6 miles. Do you think I can do it? The Derby Festival Marathon is April 30th.
This is so great, Jen. I am not a runner (yet. It is a new years goal of mine. But it will be baby steps) so maybe I can find a 5K to do on the west coast. But I love this cause. Human trafficking is devastating and the cause is very close to my heart. I am so glad that you are doing your marathon for this cause. I am excited to experience the journey with you.
P.S. you might be excited to hear about a friend of mine who through his church plant (an acts29 one) is starting a coffee shop where all profits go directly to help victims of human trafficking. I love seeing people make a difference. You go girl!
Thank you so much for posting this. I learned about trafficking about 2 years ago and it has really tugged on my heart. It just absolutely blows my mind that people could do this. I would love to support you in some way.
Also, another great orgainization that is Rapha House (freedomforgirls.org). They are battling the trafficking that has been ravaging Cambodia for years.
Goodluck on completing your goal. I am looking forward to future posts.
This is a beautiful, wonderful, fabulous idea. I am so glad that I saw this post, and that I have the opportunity to support you and this cause in every way that I can along the way. What with being a full time student, I don’t know if I’ll be able to run myself, although I would certainly love to. But I will definitely spread the word about the campaign and hopefully contribute myself.
This is such an amazing idea. I share your love of running and would love to participate- just emailed you!
Hi Jen,
I would definitely be interested in more info on how I can help. I can barely run a few miles, let alone a marathon, but I’m hoping there’s ways for us non-athletic folk to help out. If you would be willing to send me some info, I would love to know more!

thank you for posting about this. i work for an agency in chicago that provides support to survivors of trafficking, and it’s awesome to see people who are advocating and spreading awareness about the issue across the country. Love 146 is an incredible organization, and i’m so glad that you’re supporting them in their efforts! the biggest shocker to most is that this occurs in the united states, not only in other countries, and it’s awesome that you’re spreading the word.
I’m speading the news today about Love146, Thank you so much for posting about this issue! I look forward to your future posts!
i think this is an awesome idea! I love how you’re going to make a schedule for training, and recipes to prepare your body. I’m so proud of you – this is such a great way to make a difference.
Are you going to set up your own website to raise money through theirs so you can track what you’ve raised and so others can donate?
Way to go Jen! It’s amazing that you are going to be running a marathon for Love146 again. It’s awesome. Also really awesome is that you are going to running the marathon here in Ottawa, where I live. I’m super excited for you and the fact that you’re coming back to Canada to run it! 🙂
I think its great that you bring awareness to this cause by using your blog. I wish more people would stand up and use their voice.
[…] week I wrote about a BIG idea I had and today marks the start of that big idea. Today is the first day of marathon training. […]
we’ll be cheering for you, jen! i’m training for my first 10k. i’ve only ever done a 5k so i’ll definitely love your weekly training posts! i’m still searching for a charity but LOVE146 will definitely be a good choice to think about. 🙂
