My Everyday Style

I’ve started a little hashtag over on instagram called #jlkeverydaystyle. I love taking outfit pictures but most days I just run out of time to get out the nice camera and document them. #jlkeverydaystyle let’s me share pictures of daily outfits quick on instagram. Well this is the last post I’ll have with long hair. Since I took these pictures I’ve chopped my hair to my shoulder and also gotten my nose pierced. You would think I was going through some identity issues. hahahaha. Making changes left and right around here. I’m just really trying to not hold back this year (you know, since I turned 32) when there is something I want to do. I’ve wanted to cut my hair short, so I did it. I’ve wanted my nose pierced, so I did it. Simple as that. It’s fun to just commit to changes rather then mill over them forever and ever. Hopefully I will have a tattoo appointment in the near future since I just finally found the artist I am totally in love with. 32 is the year to do everything I’ve always wanted to do but just never got around to! Better late than never, right?

So… this “leather” skirt is pretty dang awesome. I’ve been wearing it a ton lately. So easy to dress up or wear casual with a big warm sweater and sneakers.

Sunday is always my day to dress up. I’ll take any chance I get to throw on some tights, a skirt and make myself feel a little fancier than normal. This cute flippy skirt (not the technical description I’m sure) is probably my favorite in my closet right now (it’s 60% off right now!!). It pretty much goes with everything. Chunky sweater, plaid button up shirt, loose fitting tshirt… You name it, it goes. Today I went with a school girl I guess. Wasn’t planning on it but this sweater kind of makes that happen with out even trying.

How was your weekend? Loved seeing everyone’s cute kids in costumes on instagram. I can’t wait for Halloween. I am pretty sure I want to be Wednesday Addams. Kev and I watched The Addams Family last night on Netflix. So good and so terrible at the same time. I just don’t want to scare Rowan, she’s been super sensitive lately to “scary” things. Wednesday or a cat. Those are my choices. We’re definitely keeping it simple around here this year.

Yay! Halloween!!!

The evenings have been getting cooler and cooler around here lately. I know the cold weather is around the corner but I am not quite ready for it yet. I even saw someone post a picture of the first snow up in the Adirondacks the other day. Gulp! Living in the Northeast, your winter coat becomes a pretty important piece of clothing in your wardrobe. I always make sure my winter coat makes me feel fashionable, warm and chic. I wear it everyday for about 5 months so I am pretty picky about what coat I buy. Plus I am always cold so most times I don’t even take it off when I go inside. T.J.Maxx always has great designer coats at super awesome prices. Love the variety they carry. I found this awesome black coat and fell love. It has great details that make it just that much more special. I love the leather elbow patches and gold hardware. Kicks up the style of what could be a plain black winter coat. Wearing a warm hat, leather leggings, an awesome winter coat and cool sneakers are a pretty standard outfit for me once the temps start dipping below 40 around here. I love when an outfits just feel like “you”.

Also #bruins4life (unless they are playing the Maple Leafs or any other Canadian team and then of course it’s #canada4life!)

I’ve been really working on scaling back my wardrobe lately. Sticking with items that fit more into the basics category (nothing fussy!). I’ve talked about it before but becoming a Mom has really given me a clearer sense of what my style is. It wasn’t an overnight thing but has developed over the last 4 years (ROWAN IS 4 TOMORROW! WHAT!?!?!). I really enjoy dressing much more laid back than I use to, with more neutral colors. More tomboy with a flair of femininity. How and why i’ve scaled back my closet is coming in the next Living A Simple, Intention Life post so I won’t go into great detail here but it’s actually been making picking out outfits and getting dressed even more fun. I’ve been really intrigued by the whole wardrobe capsule idea started over on Un-Fancy. It reminds me of Kendi’s 30×30. I don’t really feel the need to limit my closet to a certain number of items but I really like the whole idea of it. Keep things simple, intentional, and lots of remixing.

IMG_6142 ^^cutest dang diaper bag out there! Perfect for fall and it doubles as a backpack!

Lou & Grey Linen Romper: LOFT (on crazy sale! plus everything at LOFT is 40% off!)
Cardigan: Forever 21
Leopard Loafers: (similar)
Elizabeth Red Canvas Diaper Bag: c/o Lily Jade (on sale!)

And just because Rowan is awesome…

p.s. should we talk about how ridiculous Finley is? Rowan was wearing a princess dress that morning so she had to as well. And as you can see in one of the pictures Rowan was wearing a hula hoop around her neck, so Finley had to find something to copy her and be just like big sister. What a ham.

I hate to say it, but I’ve been able to feel fall in the air at night. I usually can’t wait for fall to come, but this year I just don’t want summer to end. We’ve been having way too much fun. I do love dressing in light layers and feeling the cool breeze though. The end of August is always a fun time to dress. Still summer but you can incorporate favorite items from fall as well. I was a pretty happy girl the other day when temperatures where low 70’s and I was able to wear these awesome cut out ankle boots I got at T.J.Maxx. I also think I have fully made the switch to a backpack for a purse. The ease with 2 kids is awesome and it doesn’t hurt that there are so many cute ones out there.

What do you think your favorite items for fall are going to be?
If you find anything awesome at T.J.Maxx or Marshalls for fall, feel free to share on instagram with hashtag #JenLovesKevMarshallsTJMaxx

Summer Style With Cupcake Mag

The newest issue of Cupcake Mag is out and I had the honor of sharing a summer style guide for all the fun occasions that pop over the warmer months. Kourtney Kasdashian is on the cover and I am just going to to assume and tell everyone from now on that Kourt (we are close now) knows who I am and reads my blog. That seems like a fair assumption, right? hahaaha. Anyway, the summer issue is a lot of fun and I am so happy to share the pages with some of my favorite ladies. Make sure you check it out!
