Stranded in Indianapolis

IMG_6200

I was supposed to hop a plane Sunday morning and be back to my family as soon as they had finished church. Unfortunately there were some very crazy/sad events that happened at the Chicago airport earlier in the weekend and basically shut it down. Doh! Thousands of flights were canceled and no one was going anywhere. Lucky for me, my roommate and dear friend Monica was also stranded for another night. We made the most of it and had the most wonderful day sleeping in, eating, shopping and exploring downtown Indianapolis. We had the most delicious breakfast (ok it was lunch time) at Cafe Patachou and some killer tacos and margaritas at Bakerfield’s on Mass Ave. We climbed to the top of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument- which my legs are still sore 2 days later. We hit up the 40% off sale on the LOFT (and they let me use my LOFT cash cards on top of that- it was like I hit the jackpot!). We also went to the coolest and I mean COOLEST toy store ever. Thanks to whoever recommend it on my instagram feed. It was called Mass Ave Toys. I got the girls all kinds of neat treats to bring home.

It was sad to be away from my family another day but I really loved the down time and quality hang out time with Monica that day!

IMG_6238^^not going to lie, this ridiculous traveling bar that you had to pedal all together looked like a lot of fun!

Till next time Indianapolis!

  1. I’m a hoosier native, and these pictures make the city look so fresh and inviting! I loved your session on Friday especially when you said we don’t have to be vocal about our Christianity on our blog – people can see it just by the way we lead our lives and love our families.Thank you!

  2. I’m pretty sure they have those pedal bars in Alb/Troy now! We have them all over Denver, and when i saw they were getting them at home, I immediately thought about pedaling up past the empire state plaza and wanted to die a little haha.

  3. I went to indianapolis for work a few years ago – SUCH a cool city! Looks like y’all really made the best of the situation!

  4. Glad you made the most of your stay and I hope you managed to get on your flight eventually!

  5. I saw one of those traveling bars the other day and had to look into it! Looks like a ton of fun!! http://capitalcitybrewcycle.com/

  6. This looks so fun! If you had to be stranded at least it was with a friend!
    Thanks for sharing!

  7. I went to school at Butler and we LOVED Cafe Patachou!! So glad you were able to check it out. Now that bar on wheels, that’s something I need in Chicago! 🙂

  8. I suggested Mass Ave Toys and I’m glad you went. I first found that place during a date night that took place during a crazy summer thunderstorm. We ran inside just to get out of the rain and it was like a magical wonderland. I’m glad you had some time to explore.

YAY! I live in Indy and you captured it beautifully. Thank you for supporting and promoting our local businesses while you were here. Patachou is seriously everything!

I can’t believe you were stranded in Indy! That’s where I live! mass Ave is the best! Glad you ate at Bakersfield and went to the toy shop! Two of my faves!!

  11. Hey, hey! I recognize those plates, along with everything else you photographed in our fair city. 🙂 Patachou? Delicious, right? It’s one of our favorite weekend spots, but we visit their other location. Next time, hit up Bub’s burgers and ice cream, which is in Carmel ( a short drive from Indy). If you don’t have a car, hit up Scotty pub, which is right downtown near the stadium. Both are SO good.

I’ve been a long time reader (almost 5 years!) and I live in Indianapolis. This post was so fun to read 🙂 Thanks for sharing photos from our amazing city! P.S. I went on that HandleBar bike two weeks ago and it was a trip!! Highly recommend

  13. If you’ve gotta be stranded, Indy is the place. Lived there for a short time, and loved it. Please tell me that’s cinnamon toast on your table at Patachou.

  14. You just took wacky pictures on top of a memorial. Poor form.

  15. The photos are amazing! Definitely looks like you made the best of a delay.
