Let’s Paint…

I don’t know what it is about the idea of moving, but all the sudden I am dead set on getting this apartment the way I have wanted it to be for the past 2.5 years. I am trying to finish up every project I’ve wanted to do, so we can spend however long we have left in here feeling like it is finished. It was one of my goals on my 30×30 so it’s been on my mind for a while.

With that said, we have had an old canvas that was painted over with gesso hanging on our wall for like ever. Last week when Rowan was taking a nap, I decided to get out all of my oil paints and go to town on it. It’s not my favorite thing ever, but I like it. It is colorful/abstract but full or florals. It brings some new life to our living room. I think I am a little too embarrassed to post a whole picture yet. I am not sure it is finished.

I love, love love botany illustration books though. This one is one of my new favorites (it’s a good source of inspiration)…

  1. When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be a painter, which I’ve written about here: http://natashafatah.blogspot.ca/2012/01/fashioning-art.html and I still paint from time to time, but not in any serious or disciplined way.

But that’s the joy of having a fashion blog, I feel like that’s my new daily artistic expression.

Can’t wait to see what you’ll create! Enjoy yourself!

  4. Show us!!!

I’ve been working on the set for my high school’s musical Beauty and the Beast and it has helped quelch some of my painting desires until I get to summer break. Painting sets is nice because it needs to look good from far away, but not one will ever see it up close…so Impressionist! I did have to teach a sophomore how to paint with oils though to create a portrait of the prince for the beast’s lair and just the smell of the paints made me long to spend days working on something. CAN’T WAIT FOR SUMMER!

  5. Love it, Jen! You are so talented! Can’t wait to see the whole painting!!

I am going to have to check into that book! I love the way you painted the flowers, seems like the perfect way to coax the sun out of hiding out here! I am an art teacher too and recently moved to NY, I’m curious if you are thinking about ever going back to teaching??

  8. I really really like how you added your own unique detail in the lines of the flowers and leaves and the pot. Im sure the whole piece its amazing! You’re inspiring me to whip out my own set of paints:)
