Whoops. It’s been quite a while since the last style file. I am just so tired of the cold and taking pictures outside. SPRING HURRY UP!!! haha. Boy, I am whiney today. Anyway, I made this skirt way back in the day with my best friend Laura. I don’t wear it too often but when I do, it makes me think of her and I like that. She is awesome.

p.s. don’t mind my stupid flippy do bangs. Not sure what else to do with them. Why is growing out your bangs so hard?

  2. adorable! so addicted to polka dots. and i hear you about the awkward bangs. i just twist/braid/pin mine back like you did – but then i put my other hair over it. if that makes sense…pin it back under your longer layers, it’ll hide the wavy bits lol πŸ™‚

  3. The skirt you made is super cute! I’m ready for spring too. I can’t wait for sunshine πŸ™‚

  4. I really really love the skirt. I guess it’s far too late for a tutorial, eh? But seriously, it’s lovely. Especially with the orange. It may not be spring, but your outfit is pretending its here already.

Also, I see zero snow so be happy, haha. We still have lots (well not lots really but it does keep snowing and then getting warm and slushy and whatnot so if anything it’s worse because your feet are always wet) up north.

  5. Loving that last photo, you have such a gorgeous smile!! And this outfit, swoon… you always look so effortless & chic. Adore you, and this fabulous colour pairing! And me too, so done taking pictures outside in the cold. Brrr! xo

  6. This outfit is one of my favorites!! Haha, I adore your awkward bangs so so so much.

I’m trying to grow out my bangs too. I French braid them a ton πŸ™‚

  8. I love the whole look, super cute! I think your bangs completed the look in a very sweet way!

  9. You are so creative with mixing colors & patters. I esp like the sweetness of the neckline & polka dot against the manly rust color of your shoes & cardigan. Reminds me of your last night’s dinner post (yum, sweet potatoes)!

  10. These colors look so nice together! I’m in love with your pretty polka dotted skirt.

Looking beautiful as always, love reading your blog. Weird as it is, I totally feel a part of your life. πŸ™‚

  12. That is seriously cool that you made that skirt. Love the bright blue.
    You look way cute!

haha Jen, my bangs do the flippy thing, too. It looks like I’m trying to be all “jane fonda” from the 70s, lol. What I’ve found that’s helped me is that when my hair is wet, I part my hair like I normally do, comb the bangs to the side to blend into the rest of the hair, and let my hair dry. THEN I let my bangs fall back to the front of my face. Since the bangs dry straight and in line with the rest of my hair, they don’t flip at the ends anymore!

  14. great outfit! i love this skirt. i used to make skirts all the time but haven’t in years. i guess that happens πŸ˜‰

good luck with the bangs. they look cute like that. you can pull it off. it’s so tricky growing those little guys out.!

  15. your polka dot skirt is so darling!

  16. Great transitional outfit! Love the colors. I am trying so hard to learn how to sew and not have the best of luck! A skirt is on my list of things to make though when I do! Curtains are my first todo though.

  17. The skirt is awesome! I love blue and white polka dots – so fun and springy! I can’t wait for warmer weather either, not that the winter was terrible or anything, but I heard it will be 60 this week in NY – so maybe I’ll be breaking out a fun dress or something πŸ™‚

  20. I found when I attempted to grow out my bangs (I ended up deciding that I liked them too much and trimmed them back) that the best way to keep them back was with a braid. Especially a side french braid. Works well and is super cute!

  21. I love so much about this outfit. Especially the color combo! I HATE the growing out bangs stage…I just cut mine again so I don’t have to deal with it.

  22. That skirt is so cute!

I’m growing my bangs out, too. It feels like I’ve been pinning them back in a poof for a year!

  23. Love this so much! Those colors are great together and on you!

  25. LOL your floppy bangs are too adorable. Growing them out is such a pain in the bum! I tried for months and finally gave up and chopped mine. I must say you still look great! I like the roll them up and pin to the side idea.

Love your skirt!! I can’t believe you made it, it looks perfect! Pockets and everything! ::impressed::

  26. Wow. You are adorable! Love the outfit.

  27. I LOVE this outfit. perfect! thanks for sharing

  28. Nice work on that skirt, lady! Love the fabric print you picked out. I wish I had some sewing skills…for now it’s just fantasizing about them while watching Project Runway reruns!

  29. It’s hard to grow out bangs, i’m still doing the “bobby-pin-thing” in the front too

I know I havent commented in a while. I’ve been mostly viewing your site on my phone and I don’t really comment when I’m on my phone. I realized that since I got my iphone I don’t go on all my fav blogs as much! Love the outfit! I think my skirt is a little too short so I never wear it. I saw a dress pattern the other day that I thought for some reason would be fun to make. Well, if I’m feeling ambitious one day. Hope you’re having a good time away. xo ttyl!

  31. Love your skirt, how fabolous is that you have made it. Oh I’m want so hard to learn to sew, and make me some skirts like that one.

  32. I LOVE polka dots. You look so lovely.

    Kacie

  33. Really cute pictures!

  34. damn! this lighting is amazing and the color combo here is clearly a winner. If the thrift gods could shine down on my and help me find those same oxfords that would be great. I can’t believe I’ve never commented on your blog before..I’ve been an admirer from a distance I guess. SXSW must have been amazing, i was so close to going but couldn’t get the days off work…bummer town.

  35. Wow you made that? It’s so pretty!

  36. I’ve been shopping around for a white button up shirt. I will check out American Apparel.
