DIY Valentine’s Heart Garland

My dear friend Erin and I are decorating for a Love 146 Valentine’s fundraiser this up coming Tuesday. We weren’t given a huge budget so we had to get a little creative to come up with cute center pieces. I got a Martha Stewart holiday craft book for Christmas and have been obsessed with this picture in it ever since. I am sure you have seen it all over pinterest lately. We took that idea and decided to create garlands instead. We are going to use the melted crayon hearts on the tables, wrapped about mason jars, and hanging from tree branches. I think it is going to look really cute!

Here is how you can make your own!
1. Get a bunch of red, purple, pink and orange crayonshttp://www.flickr.com/photos/jenloveskev/6849404449/

2. Remove the wrappers from all the crayons http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenloveskev/6849404027/

3. Find a pencil sharpener and sharpen all the crayons until they are tiny nubs. Save all the shavings… http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenloveskev/6849403603/

4. Sprinkle in between wax paper and melt with iron…http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenloveskev/6849402213/

5. Cut hearts out and sew in a line on the sewing machine…http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenloveskev/6849401331/

6. Voila! Make long garlands or sew just a few together to tie around mason jars and create cute Valentine’s Day center pieces. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenloveskev/6849399955/

  1. super pretty!

  2. I love this Jen! Y’all are doing a super job on those table decorations. I think sometimes limited supplies or a limited budget (like in your case) make the process more creative than it might have been without the limits. I work at an elementary school.. this would be a fun project to do for valentines! 🙂

  3. ooh that is pretty! I feel like it’d be a little time consuming with all the crayon shaving, but it’s definitely worth it. they look really cool 🙂

  4. Oh wow! Just darling! =)

  5. these are beautiful! might just have to action some myself this weekend…

  25. Ah, that’s a cute idea! If you have leftover pieces of crayon and a silicon muffin pan, you can throw them all into a cup and melt them together to make a big multicolour crayon for Rowan (or yourself).

  26. This is such a great idea; it’s so simple but it’s really striking! Love it x

  27. Jen, I frequently read your blog and your DIY posts are my favorites! The photos are crisp and colorful which inspire me to actually get creative with all the supplies I hoard and I always leave the page with that rushed feeling of needing to create. Thank you!

  28. Love it! Here a version of your DIY, you have a nice family!!! Kisses from Spain

  29. I might do this! Because they’re sort of transparent, I bet it would look great over a window or other light source with the light shining through.
