On January 12th, Rowan turned 16 months old. 16 MONTHS OLD! umm, what? How did this happen. Every day she is more and more a little girl. She makes it very clear she is not a baby anymore, nor does she want to be treated like one. She is Miss Independent. I followed her around Target for like 30 mins yesterday before she even turned around once to see if I was there. She drags her ride on toy around the house to stand on top of when she wants something she can’t reach. She is a smarty pants for sure!
She talks all the time. She just wanders around all day chit chatting about everything. I have no idea what the heck she is saying, but it cracks me up listening to her. Sometimes she comes right up to you and with such intention states something and then walks away. haha. Oh to know what she was telling you! Her newest word is shoes. She likes to pull out all my shoes in the closet and show me each pair of “shoes.”
She still signs “all done,” but now she signs “more” which she uses anytime she wants to eat. It is really cute and she also signs “please.” We have taught her where her nose, tongue, belly and feet are. We are working on eyes and ears. She can twirl, jump, and dance on command. Also, I don’t even know how this came about, but when you say “awwww yeeeah” she folds her arms and tilts side ways like an 80’s rapper. It is especially funny when you put a baseball hat on her backwards and she does it. Haha. We very much enjoy teaching her tricks.
She still goes to sleep like a champ. We are down to one nap and have been for quite sometime. Her naps last anywhere from 45mins to 2 hours. She goes to bed anywhere from 7:30-10 depending on what we have going on that night and wakes up on average at 7:30am. This little one is just like me, she seems to not need a lot of sleep. We stopped giving her snacks throughout the day in an effort to get her to be a better eater at meal time. It has helped a lot. Instead of crackers for a snack if she wants something I will give her fruit. She is getting better about eating veggies, as long as she is doing it herself of course. She is getting really good at using a spoon. Breakfast is our best meal.
She is just the sweetest little girl, but boy does she have a temper. She is stubborn just like her momma. We are getting to that stage I have been dreading… discipline. Ugh, I hate that word. I have no idea where to start or what will even work. My fingers are crossed we figure it out. She still waves at everyone and if she is walking and passes any little boy or girl, she runs up to them gives them a hug whether they want one or not. It makes me laugh. I love that anytime you get down to her level and open your arms she comes running (even from rooms away) to give you a hug. She is still head over heels in love with her Dada. He is her world. She is seriously the most social baby I have ever met.

haha. Ok. I wont go on and on anymore. Can you tell I am a proud mom? Sorry if these post get too long. I write them for myself to remember too. When the next one comes around I am going to love looking back and reading them.
Oh how we love our little cheetah!
She is so adorable! I actually have a post that sounds EXACTLY like this.e I was just waiting on her stats from the doctors appointment. My daughter Dakota is 17 (almost 18) months old, and it sounds like they’d be great pals! Dakota knows sign language too, I wonder if they’d be able to understand what the other one is saying? It’s funny how babies start to get their own personalities, but so much of what they do is in the “norm” and the same as other babies their age.
You have an adorable family!

she is so so adorable, i love those cheeks!!
Her shoes are so cool! She is lovely, it’s so nice to read what you write as your love just pours out. π
what a sweet little face!!! can’t wait until you guys have another π
I love these updates. You know, I am so not maternal, and in general, I’m not that comfortable with children. I’ve never had any urge for my own, or really understood what makes people have that urge.
But I read your posts about Rowan and go, “Oh. Of course. That’s what it’s about.” I’m still not sure motherhood is for me, but I feel I have far more understanding of what makes it such a wonderful thing to do.
Rowan sounds like a darling little girl, and reading about her antics never fail to make me smile. The 80s rapper thing sounds hilarious.
You will treasure this soo much when you look back!! My mama was soo good at documenting my early babyhood and also my childhood. But when I look back in the babybook she made me and all the things she wrote about me, I totally treasure it too! What a gift you are giving to your little Rowan- super admirable mama-ness!
she is so precious!! her and jess are only a month apart and this is one of my favortie stages….minus the stubborness π and as for discipline, you find what works. i did some research and choose some methods that work for me and my family.
and i love the “more” and “all done” signs π jess signs “more” to everything!!
She is such a cutie pants.
She is such a doll! And what a fun age.

i can’t believe she is that old! in a lot of these pictures she doesn’t look like a baby at all anymore! what a sweetie.
Total cuteness overload! Seriously, she’s adorable! π I can see why you’re such a proud mommy π
No! Please keep these posts! I’m sure I’ll have a little one soon enough and I actually refer your blog to some of my friends for the purpose of growth in a relationship. As for Little Cheetah, I [as an avid follower] am also so surprised that she is 16 months old! It feels like yesterday you shared that post of her freaking out when Kev came into the house and she was trying to run to him/was screaming dada! AND of course when she was born and the video clip you shared with us. Ugh they grow up too fast. I’m sure you’ll figure out the D-word, but honestly I feel like you and Kev won’t have to do much of it.
PS – she looks identical to Kev.
You should never apologize for long updates about your baby. My baby turned FIVE on January 12 … the months and years just fly by and you do a wonderful job of chronicling them.
she’s beautiful! and she’s growing some hair! it’s funny to look back at my own baby photos because i had no hair until i was almost three -and now i have crazy, thick curly hair!
So sweet. I feel like I know Rowan from your descriptions. She sounds like such a happy, fun loving little girl. If we lived closer (I’m in Los Angeles) she would be great friends with my 12 month old, Audrey. :o)
Awww π So sweet! I love your updates on Rowan. Our little Noah will be one this Friday, and I like seeing what is coming next – hehe. I took him to Target this last Friday and he, too, wandered happily and doesn’t have any anxiety about roaming about without me. He just started walking, so it was pretty hilarious following him around with his teetering little legs giving way every so often. I’m glad you do these posts. I was posting pretty regularly on my blog about Noah, but then summer hit and he became mobile and I haven’t kept up AT ALL. SO GOOD FOR YOU!!! π You will definitely cherish it! My family keeps nudging me to start up again. Oh, how I wish there were more time in the day π
She is so, so darling! I’m so happy to hear Rowan is doing so well. I’ve loved seeing her grow up the past 16 months. :]
I love her! Levi is doing so many of the same things (the more you share of her, I really do hope they can meet and “play” sometime before too long!;)) The talking is hilarious. Levi just took over at the dinner table tonight and we all listened and laughed our heads off. Love it.
ALSO, I love her outfit!! SO cute.
You mentioned “next oneΓ’β¬Β¦” hmmm?
XO aloha!
I am reading your blog for a while now and I totally enjoy it. My daughter Luna is 20 months old now and I really like to ready the things you are going through with Rowan. Some things are totally the same some things are totally different. I hope you will keep on blogging.
so much cuteness. π
My best friend’s baby (my group of friends calls her “our baby”) is only 10 days younger than Rowan, and all of this sounds way too familiar. The hugs, the signing, the independence. They only get better with age!
Those cheeks are to die for!
I love reading posts like this! Although I’m not a mom, or plan to be any time soon, I love seeing how your blog has changed ever since little Rowan was born. And those chubby, red cheeks are too cute to not love!
I’m about to have my first and I was just wondering where you learnt about baby signing. Or did you just create your own signs?
It is a joy to read these types of posts!! Thank you for sharing and I am so glad Rowan is doing so well!! Everyday sounds like an adventure. You are an amazing mother!!!!! And she is a very lucky, beautiful girl! π
she is just the sweetest, most beautiful little girl! xox
Adorable!!
Must have been so fun to go to a warmer climate to see her back in summer clothes! Sometimes after our daughter is done with her bath I let her romp around in just her diaper because I miss seeing her bare little arms and legs! ; )
I also read your motherhood post, so true, so true! I’ve been musing about this topic myself on my blog (under motherhood musings) http://tiptoethrough.blogspot.com/
I love what you said, I started a few series after talking with my childless friends, who had NO IDEA what it’s like and were blown away. ANYWAY, I wanted to comment on this specific post to share the book- Love and Logic, with you. I started reading it while I was pregnant and am revisiting it since our daughter is now 15 months old!
It sort of takes this discipline idea and turns it on its head… and makes it more about choices for the child, they are still your choices, but it gives them a sense of control and makes them feel heard.
Good luck!

Oh my goodness, where did you get Rowan’s shoes? They are so adorable!
They grow so fast! She is seriously the most adorable little one!
