Last Nights Dinner 06.30.11

I am guest blogging over on the Ruche blog today! I am sharing my favorite summer recipe. Mmmm! Strawberry/Kiwi Summer Rolls!! They are delicious and perfect for a summer evening appetizer. Head over to the Ruche blog to find the recipe and to say hi! It’s super easy!

Here is Rowan’s new favorite! Homemade carrot hummus!!! It is super easy to make and a good food to let them explore self eating. It sticks to the spoon, so it doesn’t instantly fall off as soon as they fling it around.
BabyLND06.30.11

Ingredients:
1 cup chickpeas (cooked or canned)
1 cup carrots (steamed and very soft)
1/4-1/2 clove of garlic (be careful of babies sensitive taste buds)
2 – 4 Tbsp Olive Oil
1 tsp lemon juice
salt to taste

Directions:
Place all ingredients, except olive oil, in a food processor and puree. Scrape down the sides and mix. Through the hole on the top of the food processor, add olive oil until the hummus is smooth. Taste and add salt if needed.

Yay!! The long weekend is almost here! I shared some of these photos over on the Delightful Dozen blog today, but wanted to share here as well. Are you excited for the 4th of July? I love the 4th. I love that it instantly makes it feel like summer. We are headed to Cape Cod for a Beach BBQ! I seriously can’t wait!

When I got this dress in the mail, I knew it would be perfect for a 4th of July post. I love to play the part for holidays. Dressing up in the matching color scheme. Never tacky though, just subtle. I loved pairing this red belt and thrifted hat with the dress. It really pulled it all together.

What are you plans for the 4th of July? Going any where fun?
Happy long weekend guys!!

This is the dress I wore out and about on our anniversary. It is seriously so cute. I love the stripes with the peter pan collar. The back is really cool as well. I didn’t get a good picture to show you though. We walked around a lot that day. We walked through the Tulleries, around the St. Martin canal and locked a lock on the Pont de Arts bridge.

If you have ever been to Paris, you have probably seen the bridge with all the locks on it. It has become a tradition “for lovers” to buy a padlock, lock it on the bridge and then throw the key into the Seine. Kinda cheesy but also kinda fun. Since it was our anniversary, we decided to give it a go. There were 2 keys with the lock, so we each wrote a little something on the keys and then threw them into the water.

I wanted to share an outfit post and some pictures from one of the days we spent up in Montmartre. I love that part of the city. It is totally worth getting off the metro near Moulin Rouge and then walking up the cute, little winding streets to the top. Such a pretty view near Sacre Coeur.

Paris at Night

Arc-de-Triomphe
When we were in Paris, we never really got adjusted to the time change. I think it was the 2 all nighters we pulled to watch the Bruins win the Stanely Cup. Either way, we spent a good amount of time walking around late at night. We always seemed to miss the last metro, leaving us very far from our hotel. I loved it though. We had late night adventures as we walked the couple miles back to our hotel each night.

If I haven’t mentioned before (haha I know I have) Kev is the most talented person I know. He is a kickass Web Designer and photographer. He would bring his camera and tripod on our late night adventures and here are some of the pictures he took. Aren’t they so magical?

Highchair Dilemma

I can’t help but think how big Rowan is getting when I look at these pictures. I am sure every parents says this, but this is my favorite age so far. She is so interactive now. Rowan is the sweetest little girl with the biggest personality.
boon
She has started to enjoy feeding herself more than being spoon feed. When she was first born, we decided to just get a cheap high chair. I heard it was a good idea, so that is what we did. We got a wood one from ikea. When we started to feed her, I realized very quickly how much I HATED that high chair. It was super hard to get her out of. The tray was super hard to get on and off and Rowan kept slamming her head on the back of it. Ugh! I started looking around again for a new high chair. There are for sure, some ugly ones out there. Printed, patterned you name it, it’s out there.
boon3
Then I came across the Boon Flair. It is a seamless, plastic high chair with an easy in and out tray. I LOVE IT!!! I love that it comes with 2 tray liners, that the straps can come out to be washed and that in one easy wipe the whole chair is clean. Rowan loves it as well. It is seriously the best high chair. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high chair. It is sort of an investment but it is totally worth it. It will last (and still look good) through all your children.

WHAT I WORE: A Book Review

wiw2
I really don’t know how to start this post without getting a little mushy. Over the last few years of blogging I have come in contact with a lot of truly geniune, smart, creative women. I count it as a blessing each day to have these ladies in my life. One such lady is Jessica from What I Wore. From the very begining Jessica has been such a huge support to me. When you meet her you instantly know just how down to earth, fun, and positive she is. When her new book “What I Wore: Four Season, One Closet, Endless Recipes for Personal Style” showed up at my door from Random House last week, I squealed in delight as I opened the package. Jessica is such a huge inspiration to me!

The book is light hearted, fun and easy to read. It made me want to get into my closet and start organizing in order to rework my favorite items. I love what Jessica has to say about each season. It is full of great tips and really encouages you to take your style to the next level. My absolute favorite thing about the book is that it is filled with Jessica’s drawings. I have always been a fan of her drawing style. The illustrations in the book are so engaging. I instantly found myself bending down page corners to remember certain outfits I wanted to use for inspiration.
wiwbook
My mom was visiting this weekend and she was flipping through the book this morning. She kept getting excited that she had all the basics that Jessica had laid out in the “Getting Started” chapter. My mom spent a good amount of time looking through it all. She loved it. (shhh don’t tell my Mom but I am totally going to give her one of 2 pre-ordered copies I have coming!)

Congrats Jessica! I couldn’t be more proud!!

One of my favorite things we did in Paris was have picnics at sunset. We would go to the store, grab some finger foods (cheese, bread, fruit, nuts, cookies, avocados & wine) and then head to a cool place to sit and relax. One night it was in front of the Eiffel Tower, another night it was near Pont Neuf (pictured above) along the seine. Since we have come home, we have had 2 such picnics for dinner. I think we took home the Parisian spirit and will be carrying it thru all summer long.

There were too many favorites this week around the internet, so instead of 10 links today I’ve got 15. Enjoy!!!

1. How cute is this Paris Ring? I majorly want it.

2. Head over heels for this satchel. Love the woven fabric!

3. J.Crew put out the cutest video of their fall lookbook. Swooning already!

4. I love the ease of dressing for summer. Same goes for babies. How cute is this San Fran Onesie?

5. How Pretty is this DIY marbled paper? I want to make some for sure!

6. I NEED to make this Fig & Beet Tart this weekend. It looks delicious!

7. Love the sort of retro feel to this pretty floral skirt.

8. This is such a “DUH!” why didn’t anyone ever think of this before kind of thing. I love it!

9. A heart on your shirt? Yes, Please!

10. This is such a great place! We have smaller version in my home town. It is like free craft/junk supplies for anyone. I go there all the time. I love that this is for schools. Go Art!

11. Perfect handbag for carrying around lots of stuff!

12. Our friends are raising money for their adoption. Help them out by purchasing a cute screen printed onesie.

13. Such a sweet picture. I did a guest post over on Melissa’s blog last week. Go check it out!

14. CHERRY APPLE WHISKEY SOUR POPSICLES?? say no more!

15. On this lovely Friday would you please send your daily vote over to topbabyblogs for us. It means so much.

A lot of the the time in the summer, I cave and just wear jean shorts and tshirts. Every now and then I like to dress it up, even for some errands. Why not right? I think the key is to wear something that looks fancy but really is just as comfortable as your trusty ol’ cut offs. Today it was this super cute dress from Threadcase. It is stretchy and soft and so easy to wear. It was perfect.

I wore my petticoat skirt from ModCloth underneath to give the bottom half a little more volume. I love adding this skirt under dresses. It makes me want to twirl around.

This outfit was supposed to be posted last week when we were away. Whoops. I just never got around to getting it up there. So, here it is now. More color.

I am working on some Paris recaps. Kev took so many beautiful, long exposure night time shots. I can’t wait to share them. That will probably be tomorrow though.

I am kind of head over heels in love with this combo of the necklace and the bright pink shirt. I feel like I might be wearing it a lot this summer. It’s so fun, bright and fresh feeling to me. I love when you are wearing an outfit & you realize it was almost all scored at a thrift store. I feel like giving myself a high five. Yay! Air five to myself.

SAT06.20.116
I have sat down to write this essay a handful of times now, but it’s been hard to think about how becoming a mother has influenced my style without thinking about how it has affected every other aspect of my life. Maybe that’s me over thinking this simple essay, but it’s hard not to when I think of the impact motherhood has had on me.

I knew I always wanted a family, but I never considered being a stay at home mom as a life goal. I couldn’t see myself as a mom, let alone refer to myself as “a woman”. In my eyes I was still a girl. When I was pregnant, my mind battled with this idea of what a mom had to be. What does a mom wear? How does a mom act? Did I have to change who I was to fit in to this role?

It seems so silly now. Rowan came, and in an instant, I become a mom. There are ups and downs for sure, but each day that passes I am left a stronger, more confident, more compassionate woman. I am proud of who I am and what it took to grow and give birth to her. My heart is full.

This new understanding of myself has left me loving fashion even more. I know what I like and I know what makes me feel good. I am more confident in taking fun risks here and there. When my days are super busy, it is a quick and easy way to feel creative. There is definitely less time to take for myself these days, but that aspect has made fashion more fun. I can’t over think it. Rowan has brought out the best in me and I am having more fun than ever. She makes me glow even when I’m simply wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

Yesterday, Kev and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. It has been a crazy 5 years. We have been thru a whole heck of a lot. It is so fun to look back at the pictures we have taken on each anniversary. The first one we were living in Hawaii. Then second one was the day we closed on our very first house. The third wasn’t anything super special, we were just loving life. The fourth one we were awaiting the arrival of little Rowan. Now, on our fifth we are sitting on the Pont de Arts bridge in Paris (more on that next week!).

I love the adventures, the trials, the laughs and the tears that we have shared together over the years. They have allowed us to grow stronger each year that passes. Kev is my biggest supporter in all that I do. He is my best friend, he is my love, he is my anchor.

I love him. Now and forevermore.

When you take pictures everyday of yourself, sometimes it is really hard to take it seriously. When we took these photos I could not stop goofing off. Kev was helping me and he was giving me directions like “be a tiger, be an air guitar tiger.” I don’t even know what an air guitar tiger is, let alone would look like. I did however end up with some very silly photos. I can’t help but keep outfit photos light hearted sometimes.

I really loved this outfit. I actually wore it twice over the weekend. For some reason I love orange and bright pink together. I like that it is super bright and contrasting on top than contrasted with black on the bottom. I am a huge fan of these shorts too. I never thought I would own a pair of leather shorts, but they seem to go with everything.

Avocado Sandwiches!

Are you ready for the easiest, most delicious summer lunch ever? It is my new favorite. It is simple, yet somehow seems super fancy.

Ingredients:
Hearty bakers loaf or baguette
Hummus
Avacado
Sprouts
Balsamic vinegar

Directions:
1. Toast bread till it is very crispy. Let cool.
2. Spread hummus on bread
3. Slice avocado and place on top of hummus. (Do you have an Avocado Peeler/Cutter? It is the best invention ever. I have this one and it is my favorite!)
4. Add sprouts.
5. Drizzle with Balsamic

Boom. Done. Eat up!

This swing at my parents house has always been a favorite. I love swings. They make me feel like a kid again every time I sit and pump my legs. I could seriously swing all day long. My favorite ride at amusement parks is always the swings. The clanking of the chains as you sit in those basket seats, the wind in your hair as you start to swing around. Ahhh no better feeling!

9 Months

9months
Our dear sweet Rowan is 9 Months old. Over the last 9 months I have called her a handful of nicknames, but honey baby, little honey, sweet baby, little cheetah, and pumpkin seem to be the most reoccurring. I can’t help it. She is so darn sweet. The love names just come out.

We brought her to her 9 month appointment last week and within 5 mins I think the doctor had already said like 3 times, “boy, she is going to be a handful.” haha. Rowan does not stop moving, looking, grabbing, exploring for even a second. She is always on the go. The #1 thing that everyone always says is she is so alert. I think I have heard that like 50 times from people. They are right. Her big blue eyes are always inspecting what’s going on. She does not want to miss anything.
9months2
9months5
Her current stats are: Length 29 1/2 inches. Weight 21.1 pounds. That puts her at around 90-95%. She is clapping and waving up a storm lately. I love it when she waves. It is so cute. She is getting good at doing it at the right time too. When people say hi or goodbye to her, she waves at them. She is a crazy wall walker. She canvases our place all day long, back and forth and back and forth. She has even started to let go of things to stand there for a second by herself. Rowan does not like help. She wants to do everything herself, including eating. She has started giving us a really hard time eating pureed food. She only wants to eat what we are eating. We have started giving her more real food like cut up avacado, rice and beans and cut up fresh fruit.
9months8
9months6
9months10
I honestly can’t believe how big she is getting. Every day she seems less and less like a baby and more like a little girl. I know we still have a while before those toddler years, but they are creeping up fast.

Her Beavis and Butthead laugh is contagious. It is strange to hear such a throaty laugh come from such a little girl, but it is just too funny. She loves playing with blocks, having Kev read her stories, going for walks, dancing to the hot dog song from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, licking our fruit popsicles, looking at framed photographs and seeing other little kids.

We really couldn’t imagine our life without her.

(I am no good at packing, but here are some outfits that got stowed away in my suitcase. Yes, that is a sequined eagle dress. Hello, anniversary dinner! I really can’t wait to wear that lovely floral dress from ModCloth)

We made it! It was sad to say goodbye to our sweet little angel, but I know Rowan will love spending some good bonding time with her Grammy + Grandpa. She doesn’t get to see them very often. Our flight was fast and uneventful, even though I freak out over flying. I never use to be like that but for some reason the last 2 years I’ve gotten so bad.

We are super jet legged, but we are going to bed early with our alarm set for 12:30am. We found a pub in the Latin Quarter called “The Great Canadian Pub” that is broadcasting the Stanley Cup game. It’s a big game in Boston and we wouldn’t. I am excited at the adventure of it. Getting up in the middle of the night, in Paris, to go watch the hockey game and drink some beers. haha. I am looking forward to it!

Tomorrow starts some Color themed outfit posts. Let’s just say Kev now knows what color blocking is and won’t stop using it in sentences.

Have a great week everyone!

We are keeping it simple and sweet today. That is one of the best parts of summer. I love the layers of fall & winter, but by summer it is always such a nice change to put on 1 thing and be done. Pretty vintage dress+ shoes+ belt+topknot=summer perfection. Especially when it is going to be almost 100 degrees today.

What is your favorite easy summer outfit?

We are in high gear this week to get a whole heck of a lot done. So with that, we are off for another busy day. Have a lovely one friends!

Last Nights Dinners

Ok, so this is not going to be the most healthy recipe ever, but in the spirit of the Bruins here we go… Nacho Casserole
LND06.07.112
LND06.07.11
I am not a sports fan at all. Actually, I hate watching sports but Hockey on the other hand… There is nothing better! Since the Bruins are in the Stanley Cup, our nights have been scheduled around games lately. Kev gets so into it. He screams and jumps and yells “did you see that?” all night long. haha. The other night I made a special game night dinner with lots of different appetizers. One of which was this Nacho Casserole. It was delicious. Mmm beans, cheese, salsa and chips. Is there anything better?

Ingredients:
1 can condensed Cheddar cheese soup
1/2 cup low fat milk
1 jar of salsa (or you could use homemade)
1 bag of tortilla chips (have you tried the Hint of Pepper Jack yet? ahh so good)
1.5 cups of refried beans (homemade or from can)
1 jalapeno sliced
1 cup shredded cheese
Fresh Cilantro

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a ceramic or glass baking dish stir soup and milk together until well blended. Spread evenly.
2. Top with Chips and half of salsa.
3. Carefully spread beans across chips, sprinkle with some cheese.
4. Top with chips and remaining salsa.
5. Sprinkle with cheese, cilantro and jalapenos.
6. Bake in over for about 20 mins.

Rowans Dinner:
Butternut Squash with some fresh OJ

Ingredients:
Butternut Squash
Orange
Butter (just a tiny little dab)

This is a really simple dinner. Perfect for younger babies too. If I have the time, I will buy a whole butternut squash, slice it up and cook it, but in a pinch you know what is super helpful? The frozen veggies at the grocery store. I’ve read that frozen vegetables seal in vitamins because they are frozen right away. Anyway, steam your butternut squash then add to a blender. Squeeze in some juice from an orange to add some mixing liquid. Add just a touch of butter. Blend together and you are good to go!

All week last week I thought yesterday was supposed to be Father’s Day. Haha. When I found out it actually was not Father’s Day, I had already planned the whole day out for Kev, Rowan and I. Whoops. We decided to celebrate anyway because we will be flying home from France on the 19th. We spent the day at an indoor waterpark! It was super fun! Rowan loves being in the water. She is such a little fish.

You know what my favorite fabric for summer is? Linen! It’s cool and airy. This little Linen dress from the I heart Ronson collection at jcpenney is just perfect. I love the crisscross back detail. It was the perfect dress for our Saturday afternoon adventures this weekend.

I could not be happier for the weekend to be here. How come 4 day weeks can sometimes seem the longest? Rowan and I have been having a tough week. Somebody has been fussy all week. She has also started doing this limp body thing when she is angry and wants to get out of whatever you are trying to get her to do. Tantrum anyone? We are looking forward to a weekend with Kev home and our very first outdoor BBQ of the season tonight with friends.

Happy Weekend!
*the above pictures were taken a very long, long time ago when Kev and I started dating.

Here are some of my favorites from sponsors and around the internet this week…

1. My mom got Rowan these Haba Blocks for Christmas and they are by far her (and mine) new favorite toys. They are wooden, bright and so magically fun!

2. Umm, this is the most adorably cute wedding I have seen in a long while. So happy for the lovely Elsie!

3. I would like to be bff’s with this girl. She is so stinkin’ cute and I just love her outfits.

4. Hello Polka Dot Wedges! You will be in my closet in 5-7 business days!

5. We all know I LOVE swaps but have you checked out the Swap.com Event page to see if there is a swap coming to a town near you? Also, they have an amazing Swap 4 Schools programs that could help out some very deserving teachers.

6. June 14th marks the Launch of the Glitter Guide. I am so happy for Taylor. Check out this super cute video they put together.

7. You really can’t get enough floral skirts for the summer. I am head over heels for this one. Love the colors.

8. My most favorite vacation ever was to Lake Powell. I was younger and we rented a house boat for a week with my cousins. The week was spent tubing, swimming, climbing, cliff jumping and catching lizards. When I saw this post it brought back all those lovely memories.

9. Can this cat dress please get in my closet, now please! Erin always makes everything look so dang cute!

10. I think I am going to subscribe to this magazine. Love the 3rd issues launch video.

We are keeping things simple today. Not every day is wedges, skirts and dress up. Today we ran lots of errands. Errands with a baby take all day, but the 2 of us enjoy the day out and about together. These days always consist of cut offs, some sort of loose comfortable top and a lop sided ponytail (it starts off straight, I swear).

I just have to make a note about this new purse from Modcloth. It’s my most favorite thing right now. I love it to death! Also, my new June ModCloth ad is up over there to the left. It’s a special one this month. When you click it, it will bring you over to my June Wishlist. There are so many items I want right now. Are any of them your favorites too? Check it out!

I am head over heels with this outfit. The colors are perfect and this dress is so light and airy. We went on a little family walk to take these pictures last week. There are always some outtake photos for any outfit post, but these outtakes make me laugh. I was trying to entertain Rowan as Kev was setting up the camera. Haha, I look crazy!
