Sweet Music

If there is one thing that has made a big impact on who I am as a person it would be music. Music was such a huge influence on me in high school and college. I hate to say it, but it is what I let define me. It defined the art I made, the clothes I wore and the friends I had. Kev and I might have met in book making class like I wrote the other day, but we bonded over music first. He asked me if I wanted to drive with him to a show like the 1st week I met him. Haha. Totally weirded out, I said no but that I would see him there because I already had tickets. Too funny.

When I think of Kev there is lots of music that reminds me of him, but one band in particular will always be Kev and I’s Band. Did you ever listen to Silent Drive? Well, this band was made up of mostly Bane members (also a favorite in younger years) and Kev took me to see them on our very first date in 2004. Silent Drive is awesome. It may not be everyones taste, but it became the anthem of our last weeks of college and our first summer of dating. When I hear it I can’t help but think about how much I love Kev. It’s not the most romantic music, haha. It’s not sweet Valentine’s music at all but to me it is filled with memories with the man I love more than anything. It just seems fitting the their album title was called “Love it Worth it.”

  1. You guys are great. I know for sure if we lived in the same town we would be friends! I think that’s why I like reading your blog.

  2. Awww! You guys are so cute! I wonder if back then, in that picture, you guys ever imagined in 2011 you would be married and parents to the sweetest baby girl!

  3. Fun! Music is a big part of my husband and I’s relationship, too. He first asked me out to a Relient K concert. There were other bands there, but that is basically who we went to see. We like a lot of the same music, and I love that. Even ranging from Taylor Swift to Needtobreathe to Angels and Airwaves.

  4. Oh wow I completely forgot about that band. So good! You guys are so perfect and too cute

  5. So sweet! My husband and I met in a similar way. We were both at art school and he wore all these cool band shirts so we bonded over hardcore bands. I’ve never heard of silent drive but I was a huge Bane fan. Ah the good ol days of straight edge and hardcore. I love your blog and your cute outfits inspire me to get dressed cause its not that easy with a little one!

  6. Hehehe. Silent Drive sounds like my husband’s “angry music.” I call it that to tease him. I think he would very much enjoy Silent Drive. Maybe I’ll have to sweeten his VDay with some tunes…our first anniversary was spent at a Toby Mac concert.

We had a blast, music adds so much to life! Sometimes a song can bring a memory back so fresh that it feels like time travel.

Have a fabulous weekend!! Blast your tunes and love|live to the beat 🙂

  7. Music also completely defined me especially in high school, but also in college. I was big into Brand New, Circa Survive, Lucero and Northstar (no judging, k? haha). It shaped how I view the world and a lot of my art at the time. Glad to see there are still some kindred spirits out there! 🙂
