On Saturday we packed our coolers, picked up our friends and headed out to The Saratoga Raceway for the day. Kev and I had never been to the racetrack before. I really didn’t know what to think, but it exceeded everything I thought. It was beyond fun!! I seriously felt like I was in a disney movie half the time. Which of course I loved! It was like the scene in Mary Poppins when they are in the chalk drawing and are at the Track. There was lots of food, bands, they really make that trumpet noise, all the horses, the grandstand, the giant hats on super rich ladies. I felt like a little girl, I was so excited all day to be experiencing something I had never done before. Those are def. some of my favorite moments in life, when you get to do something new. I try to never take them for granted. Even the betting is a whole fun game in itself. Carrie schooled us in all the lingo and how pick bets, I was so nervous the first time I went up to the window to make a bet. Haha. We only were betting like $1 but still it’s so fun. Now, I know there is a method to the madness behind betting but for me I threw the odds out the window and bet on horse that had cool names (usually if they had some things to do with cats…ex: Magnificent Tiger) or what they were wearing. It always listed what color patterns the jockey was wearing. I usually always went with the Jockey that had a Pom-pon! Yay for Pom-Pons. Which by the way I didn’t know what they heck it was for the first half the day until I wikipedia it and found that it is actually the correct way to say pom-pom. Doh! I had no idea. I thought they were just trying to make the word pom-pom sound more masculine for the jockeys. What a good day!

I really wasn’t sure what I was going to wear but Carrie came over on Friday night and we made our hats. I just used a thrifted straw hat I had from the goodwill and added a ribbon flower, some tulle and some ridiculously long feathers. Since it was going to be so warm I ended up wearing a nice, flowy, cool dress from Heritage. I had to wear bike shorts underneath because my belly is getting so big it lifts non maternity dresses up a little too high in the front sometimes. haha!
Dress: Heritage
Necklace: NY&Co.
Hat: Thrifted via Goodwill (embellished by moi)
Tie Espadrilles: Nine West (thrifted via Clothes Mentor)

How fun! This is probably my favorite outfit because I love you hat so so much, especially since it’s thrifted and you added the awesome details. You’re just too cute.
Jen your posts like this always make me miss summers at home! I’m from about 15 mins south of Saratoga and it is not summer until I hear that commercial on the radio… Sa-Ra-Toooo- GAAAAAH! Haha, it has not changed in about 20 years at least and I love it. Thankfully I’ll be back upstate this coming week and will definitely be spending some time in Saratoga. Great hat btw!
Oh how fun! I’ve always wanted to go to the races. Love your dress and your hat is perfect for a day at the tracks.

That sounds like so much fun. My friend Melinda & I have been trying to make it down to Del Mar (San Diego, Ca).
Your outfit is super fab. I especially love your shoes. So cute!
Wow I’m really impressed that you made that hat! Great job! I wish I was that crafty. I can only knit 😀
I love the feather in your hat. Such a cute look for the races!
totally adorable jen!!
That looks like such fun! I was going to ask you if you got to wear a fun hat. I would love to go just to wear a rediculous hat. If we ever watch the horses on tv I usually bet on the ones that have yummy sounding names like “snickers.” 🙂 Glad you got to experience something new. And really, you didn’t know it was pom-pom!? Silly…

So fun! My husband and I go to the Derby every year and styling up a big hat is one of the best parts. You’re looking fabulous at week 36 🙂

So, I have been following your blog since I started blogging, but I am not sure that I have ever commented. It is time to comment, because I met the cutest couple (Annie and Tony) tonight who know you. They recently went on a trip to Ecuador with my roommate. We discussed what a stylish and precious pregnant person you are. Come check out my blog and headband giveaway sometime! 🙂
I sooo love the hat!!! You are just like Coco Chanel designing her own hats!
You should sell them!!!!
Everything about this is absolute perfection! You look radiant and are without a doubt the cutest mommy-to-be I’ve ever seen!
