NYC Style File 04.19.10

So since I didn’t get a good picture of the outfit I wore to the LOFT party and well Kev didn’t get to see me in it, I decided to put it back on again this weekend to take some pics to share with everyone. I was really happy with how it all came together. I am still adjusting to dressing for my rounded belly, so I felt pretty good in this outfit and more myself than just a pregnant lady. I am trying my best to not buy maternity clothes because lets face it they are pretty terrible. I am now on the hunt for dresses with higher waist lines and that are elastic. They seem to do the job! I loved all the pale neutrals in this outfit. It was so romantic and pretty to me.

These trees in the picture are so pretty but I have to say they are absolutely the worst smelling thing I have ever smelled. They were making me gag they were so potent. Gross! Also there was a dog peeing right on the other side of the fence staring at me as we took pictures. It was weird.

How was everyones weekend? Ours was very nice. My mom came to visit us on Saturday and brought up a bunch of tree branches to help us with my idea to create a real life birch tree mural behind our bed, since I can’t paint one in this apartment ( I miss our!) Anyways, I have to say the is about as cool as the painted one and I can’t wait to take better pictures to show you. My mom also gave us the for baby! Well happy monday everyone!!

  1. I have to say that I do love the live mural better than the painted one as well. My wonder is how you keep the branches from breaking? I would imagine you don’t put your bed right about against them. Great Ideas though!!

The onesies are very cute as well!!

  2. Jen this is the cutest outfit!! You look adorable, and honestly you can’t even tell you’re pregnant 🙂 Meanwhile, totally go the highwaisted/elasticated dresses… they’re pretty much all I wore both pregnancy! xoxo

  3. Love the necklace, reminds me of Xmas ornaments kinda. So cute.

  4. i LOVE the little dotted socks and shoes combo. so so super cute! 🙂

  5. The outfit you picked is totally adorable! love, love, love! Have a fabulous day!

  6. Love the necklace. I’m with you about the maternity clothes. I start to look online and I get so discouraged. I think that for a while you can get away with wearing regular clothes if they’re cut right. What nice branches your mom found! It’s going to look really great.

  7. Miss Jane •

I can’t tell if that is a Dogwood tree, but if it is I totally agree – they have the most disgusting smell! They are very common here in Atlanta. Your outfit is adorable!

  8. I don’t think they are dogwoods. I think they are some sort of pear tree blossom.

  9. I love this outfit, it’s so sweet. Especially those adorable socks. I also love your idea of the real tree branches, so cool. I might have to steal this idea from you!

  10. Jen- you rocked this look! I didn’t notice the sock detail in person but I love it!

The tree is a Joshua Pear… and the word on the street is that is smells like…. (I CANNOT TYPE OR SAY OUT LOUD!)

  11. I think I already commented on your Loft party post about how much I loved your outfit, but I’m going to say it again because this location is the perfect backdrop for your gorgeous ensemble. It’s funny, I actually have a top from H&M that is just like your dress. See:

  12. You looked so good, Mommy. 😉

  13. I’m in love with this outfit, kind of want to steal the whole thing! ha i now need to take a trip to zara. : )

  14. you look amazing and the pictures are beautiful, the good thing is we can’t smell the tree nor see the dog! so I try to imagine a good smell!

  15. I’m loving your pretty pale shades! The socks, the jacket, the necklace…love it! Also, I have some of those trees by my apartment, and you’re right they smell pretty heinous! I’ve nicknamed them the “ass trees”, ‘scuse my language, and there’s no doubt as to why!

  16. i looove your tights! the whole outfit just screams spring! 🙂

  17. i love this outfit, and I will definitely be hitting up H&M to copy your socks!!

  18. haha, i hate how those trees smell, and they seem to be everywhere based solely on how pretty they are when the blossom in april 😉 and i also love the outfit.

    you look amazing!

  20. I’m not sure what I like more: the dress/necklace/jacket combo or the REAL BIRCH TREE BRANCHES in your bedroom. Awesome!

  21. You are unbelievably talented! What a spectacular idea for your bedroom! Trev and I are in the process of buying our first home, so I’m loving collecting decor ideas–it’ll be the first time I’ve ever been allowed to paint our space. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love your outfit too! Saw it first on What I Wore and had to pop on over. 🙂

  22. wow the mural looks amazing

  23. Jen, this is so darn pretty!! I love the light colors paired together, and the really feminine details (like those precious socks). Definitely one of my favorite looks on you 🙂

  24. i really, really, REALLYYY love this! it’s so sweet but a little tough… definitely how i would think of your style. it is SO hard to dress for a growing belly. especially in those later months. i hate to admit that i DID buy a lot of maternity clothes… mostly just tees to get me through the last couple of months and a couple of pairs of jeans. otherwise, i did manage to get through most of my “nicer” tops with non-maternity flowy silhouettes.

  25. The ‘mural’ is AWESOME! and I assuming since there are little girl onesies on your flickr account that the bun is a girl?! YAAAY! congrats!! (and CONGRATS if it’s a boy and I am assuming incorrectly!) 🙂

  26. Now I feel like a dummy ’cause I just read your other post! lol, but YAY for all the little dresses, purses, hair clips!!

  27. You look gorgeous Jen and I am in love with the soft neutral palette.

OH, I know what you mean about those trees. The smell like fish!!

    Lulu Letty

  28. You look absolutely stunning and glowtastic, and it looks like you guys had such a fun time at the Loft event!

  29. Oooooo… I love this outfit and these pics! As a landscaper I sometimes work near these trees and we have a rather inappropriate name for them, based on their smell…

  30. Jen, I loved/love this outfit on you – so pretty. The colors are so delicate and pretty! I can’t wait to see this real life birch tree mural! I saw the pictures of your old room a while back and was in love, but I’m super excited to see the new room results! Hope you’re feeling super great – I can’t believe how fast your pregnancy is going! Eep! 🙂

  31. Jennifer •

We have those trees all over my campus, and they smell like decaying rats. So nasty!
They look pretty, though, and go well with your dress!

  32. Sarah M. •

    You look gorgeous! 🙂

PS – The trees are Bradford Pear trees. They are around my office buildong and boy do they stink to the high heaven! Ugh! Pretty, but smelly. Why not plant cherry blossoms or crab apple trees? Who knows! 🙂

  33. Love this outfit and especially the first picture of you. Good thing we can’t smell the scenery 🙂 Empire line dresses seem like the easiest option for pregnant ladies I think. Zara also has a maternity line, I once picked up some tops from that section and only discovered the ‘maternity’ factor when I tried them on in the fitting room hehe.

  34. Hehehe at the creepy dog starting at you, that made me giggle!

I love the pretty pastel colours in this look, and the sweet details of the necklace and little socks!

  35. i love the outfit… but OH MY GOODNESS I LOOOOOOVE the real mural for the bedroom!!!! it is SO amazing!!!! xox

  36. Oh, I can’t get over this whole look. I’m loving the neutrals for spring. And those little socks with the wedges, so stinking adorable. I love it all.

The mural, also, is amazing. I’m dying to create something similar in my house.

  37. This is sooooo, so cute! You look amazing!

  38. these neutrals are so beautiful on you! i love the flow-y material of the dress and those socks are adorable.
