I have no pictures from this weekend. I had planned on making a cool little video of us moving but lets just say that it was disastrous. Every single thing that could have gone wrong with our moving day did- it was not pleasant day. I am glad that it is over and that I don’t have to deal with it anymore. Enough said.
So this morning was my first morning of my longer commute back to MA to school. It was ok. I was tired but it went by pretty fast. As I was driving I was thinking of some new cds that I dont have yet that I would like to listen to as I drive. This is what I came up with….

Do you have any suggestions of good music that I could get to help pass the time as I drive to school?

Whats your Over the Weekend Happy List?
Todays Style File will be posted later in the evening tonight.
See you then!
Have a great Monday everyone.
“Far” is my album of choice right now! I’d have to suggest “Manners” by Passion Pit. It’s really fun and always reminds me of the way I feel at the very beginning of the weekend ๐
I love your happy list… I think i might just have to ‘borrow’ the idea today. ๐
Hi! I’ve been following your blog for over a year and have to say today is the first day I’ve decided to comment. (Must be the two cups of coffee I had this morningรขโฌโoops!) I love reading your blog and your Style Files always give me so many ideas. I can’t wait to see your new house decorating.
Here are some of my current music loves:
-Strict Joy by The Swell Season (same band as the movie “Once”)
-House With No Home by HorseFeathers (band from Portland, they play beautifully stark winter music”
-Pink Martini “Hang on Little Tomato” is a favorite, and they recently released “Splendor in the Grass”
Enjoy!
Dear Sarah
I just tried to email you back this message but your email bounced back. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your 1st comment!!! It really means a lot!
and thank you for your suggestions- I am going to look up every one. Its so excited being introduced to new music!
Have a wonderful Monday!!
Hi Jen,
I also have a long commute in the car and have started checking out book on cd from the library to listen to while driving and I love it. My husband and I also get them for long car trips. Free and entertaining!
Hey,
I agree with Jess. Audiobooks make my commute a lot easier. ๐
I really really enjoy your blog. You have a great sense of style and your dinner recipes motivate me to get off my butt and cook. Hope you get settled into your new place soon ๐
I HATE moving. Hate it. I sadly don’t really have any music to recommend, because all I listen to is satellite radio these days. Although the Cobra Starship album is suprisingly good, and I can’t wait for Lady Gaga’s new album…
get the deer tick album immediately! so good.
nothing beats npr in the mornings! as for music, i’ve been trying to make my way through the pitchfork 500. it’s got all the classics and supposed must-know’s across several genres for the past 30 or so years, so getting through it is like a learning experience.
A Fine Frenzy’s new album “Bomb in a Birdcage” is amazing! Her first cd is really good too. “God Help the Girl” is a great album too.
I am such a nerd, but I really love The French Kiss soundtrack, it makes me feel all romantic and lovey dovey, and I also like The You’ve Got Mail one too (I said I was nerd!). Also I am really into Dusty Rhodes and The River Band, it’s a cool twist on folk music-y music, my husband found them on Fuel TV. Glad your done moving Jen!
mint tea and colored tights, are definitely things to be happy about! my boyfriend always asks me why i need to have so many tights! i hope you’re moving frustrations are over with! i hate moving, especially when you have to go a longer distance!
my over the weekend happy thing is finding out i got accepted to grad school!
ps. i love love loove your fashion files, you’re so inspiring!
i lovelovelove driving to bruce springsteen and the e street band…try “the wild, the innocent and the e street shuffle” to start.
My Monday happy list is:
1. Finding gorgeous shoes that i’ve wanted for 50% off!
2. Watching old school movies with my little sister
3. A nice dinner with my parents
4. Lit woodwick candles
5. Cuddling under a soft blanket and falling asleep.
6. Checking out your blog ๐
First time commenter, long time admirer. Congrats on completing the move. Music for long drives: A.A. Bondy, Neko Case, Andrew Bird, The Radio Dept., and El Perro Del Mar. My weekend list includes: sleeping in late, eating doughnuts, making homemade pizza (mmm, the smell of garlic, basil, and oregano!), raking leaves, watching football, and playing cards. Love your Style Files. Keep ’em coming. xo.
First timer too! I start my prep period [I’m an art teacher too!] reading your blog. I love it! Awesome music for the drive: Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Dirt Projectors, Slow Club, ooh and Crystal Castles to drive-dance to…and I think its time for Sufjan Stevens Songs for Christmas!!!
Thanks for all the inspiration
I would suggest Florence and the Machines, The Shins, Frou Frou, and Hands Down Eugene (one of my faves but I don’t remember them being on I tunes).
And my Happy Monday List is
1. hot rollers in my hair.
2. cuddling with my puppy.
3. reading my blog list before work.
4. eating raisin toast with coffee.
5. putting together my outfits.
6. my drive to work. It’s a pretty drive.
oh no, I’m sorry to hear the move didn’t go as smoothly as hoped, glad it’s over now though! I think you would like The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, they’re peppy in a 60’s rock kind of way-without being overkill for early AM car rides.
My monday list:
1. Having time for breakfast and blogging before work
2. knowing exactly what I want to wear and having it work out
3. sitting on the couch with a cat and watching Gossip Girl after coming home from work
4. Apple crisp for breakfast (with ice cream)
5. coming in from the cold and blasting the heat
i love that you’re making a happy playlist as well! i love listening to all the happy songs that people recommend. stop by my blog and check out the recommendations that others have made to my “ultimate happy playlist” request.
That’s funny… I just downloaded Still Night Still Light a couple of weeks ago (it’s good). Nouvelle Vague is really good & I’m also liking the new Peter Bjorn & John album (Living Things).
